“It is possible to uphold integrity and ethics,” that is the message EACC officers took to the just concluded Mombasa International Trade Fair. The officers, stationed at the Commission’s booth at Mkomani Showground, interacted with high school students and educated them primarily on the agency’s mandate, its role in fighting corruption and the role of Integrity Clubs that have been established in schools. The clubs are a significant initiative by the Commission in reaching out to students to help in instilling integrity values in schools.

The Commission was represented at the trade fair by Education Training and Public Awareness (ETPA) and Communications team. The fair, which ran under the theme Promoting Technology and Innovation for Agriculture and Trade, was a beehive of activity from 28th August – 2nd September 2018.

The show attracted exhibitors from many sectors such as production, manufacturing, banking, education, government institutions, among many others.

At its stand, the EACC had a number of publications that focused on pupils, students, public officers and the public in general. Among these were children’s story books with moral lessons on character formation targeting lower primary school children.  Children visiting the stand received copies of the books; teachers as well received copies for their school libraries. Other materials such as legislation guides and reports were also issued for public consumption.

The EACCs booth was predominantly student dominated in the first four days of the show, although the last day was largely attended by the general public. The students were pleased to learn about the institution in general and more specifically its significant role in preventing and educating the public on anti-corruption matters.

She was accompanied by the Lower Coast Regional Head George Ojowi, who played a fundamental role in ensuring the success of the event.

In the radio interview, Commissioner Mghoi urged the public to be vigilant and report incidents of corruption to avert loss of public resources and to avoid lengthy legal processes of recovering stolen public assets.

Mr. Ojowi encouraged the public to visit Commission offices and Huduma Centres countrywide to report on corruption incidents as well as to benefit from other services offered by the Commission. He also urged public officers and the public to uphold integrity and ethics in the discharge of their duties.
