EACC reaffirms regional leadership in promoting financial integrity

12:11:2025: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reaffirmed Kenya’s strong commitment to fostering financial integrity, asset recovery, and regional cooperation in the fight against corruption and money laundering.

Speaking yesterday during the opening of a high-level regional workshop co-hosted by EACC, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Anti-Corruption Hub for Africa, and the East African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA), EACC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Abdi Mohamud underscored Kenya’s determination to lead by example in advancing accountability and transparency across borders.

The three-day forum, taking place in Nairobi, brings together investigators, prosecutors, Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), regulators, and private-sector representatives from across Eastern and Southern Africa. Its goal is to strengthen collaboration in tracing, freezing, confiscating, and returning stolen assets, while reinforcing mechanisms to prevent money laundering and illicit financial flows.

Flanked by UNODC’s Francesco Checchi to his right, and EAAACA’s Munira Ali to his left, EACC CEO Mr. Mohamud fields questions on the sidelines of the high-level regional workshop on financial integrity, asset recovery, and regional cooperation in the fight against corruption

Mr. Mohamud emphasized that Kenya continues to align its anti-corruption and anti–money laundering reforms with international frameworks, including the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations. He noted that these reforms demonstrate Kenya’s resolve to ensure that public resources are protected and that offenders are held accountable through coordinated regional action.

Participants from Ethiopia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and other regional bodies are expected to jointly develop regional indicators to measure progress in asset recovery and financial integrity reforms. These indicators will be presented for endorsement at the upcoming EAAACA Assembly.

By hosting this workshop, Kenya not only reinforces its role as a regional hub for anti-corruption collaboration but also advances Africa’s collective agenda of financial transparency, accountability, and sustainable governance.
