Strengthening integrity in schools through parental engagement
13:02:2026: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday conducted a capacity-building workshop for members of the National Parents Association (NPA) in Nairobi County, aimed at strengthening the role of parents in promoting integrity within the education sector.
The workshop, held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), brought together parent leaders and key education stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in ethics, integrity, and anti-corruption.
Speaking during the opening session on behalf of EACC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Abdi Mohamud, Deputy Director of Education and Public Awareness Dr. Emily Mworia underscored the critical role parents play in shaping their children’s moral values.

Dr. Mworia noted that parents are the first role models and primary reference point in a child’s life, urging them to lay a strong ethical foundation early. She challenged parents to be responsible citizens and to speak out against corruption, particularly within the education system.
“Parents must not remain silent when corruption thrives. They should demand accountability in school management, transparency in admissions processes, fairness in resource allocation, and prudent use of public funds,” she said.
She emphasized that the fight against corruption cannot be left to institutions alone but must evolve into a broader national integrity movement, with parents serving as central actors in advancing ethical standards at the community level.
The workshop sought to enlist parents as key stakeholders in combating corruption by equipping them with practical tools to promote integrity and strengthen oversight frameworks within schools.
Participants included the Chairperson and CEO of the National Parents Association, a representative from KICD, and officials from the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission. They expressed their commitment to collaborate with the Commission in fostering transparency and accountability in the education sector.
The EACC reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with parents’ associations nationwide and other stakeholders as part of sustained efforts to promote integrity in schools and enhance community oversight mechanisms.
