EACC nabs NAWASCO officer in Kes15,000 bribery sting
Leonard Cheruiyot Mutai, a Leak Detection Officer at NAWASCO arrested apprehended on March 23 in Nakuru County
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) employee over alleged bribery in Nakuru County.
The suspect, Leonard Cheruiyot Mutai, a Leak Detection Officer at NAWASCO, was apprehended on March 23, 2026, following a complaint from a member of the public. The complainant alleged that Mutai had demanded Kes15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter in Langa Langa Estate.
Acting on the complaint, EACC, investigators mounted an operation that culminated in the suspect’s arrest while receiving the bribe. Upon arrest, officers recovered Kes15,000 on hand alongside Kes100,000 concealed in socks and an additional Kes18,000 found in his coat pocket.
Mutai was taken to the Commission’s South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing before being detained at Central Police Station. He was later released on a police cash bail of Kes20,000 pending the conclusion of investigations.
The Commission reiterates its call to the public to report corruption and resist bribery.
