Kirinyaga County Government to operationalize anti-corruption committee
15:04:2026: The Governor for Kirinyaga, Ms. Ann Waiguru, has committed to operationalising the County Executive Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) in line with Section 9 of the Anti-Bribery Act.
The commitment was made on 14th April 2026 during a courtesy call by a delegation from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), led by Vice Chairperson Dr. Monica Wanjiru, at the Kirinyaga County headquarters.
The visit aimed to facilitate the establishment of the CPC, a key institutional mechanism to strengthen corruption-prevention frameworks within county governments.
The initiative is guided by the 2023 CPC establishment and operationalisation guidelines developed by EACC in collaboration with the GIZ Good Governance Programme. The guidelines outline procedures for the appointment, training, and roles of committee members.
Under the framework, the governor chairs the committee, supported by the deputy governor, County Executive Committee members, the county secretary, and the county attorney, while a trained Integrity Assurance Officer serves as secretary.
Since their rollout, CPCs have been established in 14 counties, including Kisumu County, Makueni County, and Kilifi County, underscoring their growing role in promoting ethics, integrity, and accountability in devolved units.
Dr. Wanjiru noted that effective CPCs are critical in identifying and mitigating corruption risks, fostering public trust, and ensuring the prudent use of public resources for the benefit of citizens.
