Strengthening global partnerships in the fight against corruption

19:08:2026: Efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against corruption were at the centre of discussions on Wednesday when EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud hosted Sweden’s Ambassador to Kenya, Lars Håkan Åkesson, at the Integrity Centre.

The discussions focused on deepening collaboration in anti-corruption initiatives, good governance and institutional capacity building, with particular attention to emerging challenges such as sophisticated financial structures, concealment of digital assets and illicit financial flows.

Ambassador Åkesson emphasised the importance of robust accountability frameworks in boosting investor confidence and supporting economic growth.

The two sides agreed to leverage bilateral cooperation to strengthen integrity mechanisms in Kenya and the wider Eastern African region.

The engagement forms part of the Commission’s efforts to deepen strategic international partnerships in support of its mandate to prevent and combat corruption and promote integrity and accountability.

International cooperation is increasingly important in addressing corruption and illicit financial flows, which often transcend national borders and require coordinated responses among institutions and countries.
