EACC Mashinani takes anti-corruption engagement to Kajiado

25:09:2026: The Commission has taken anti-corruption awareness and public engagement to the grassroots with the launch of EACC Mashinani in Kajiado County, bringing together public officials, community leaders and residents to strengthen participation in corruption prevention.
The maiden week-long initiative, held from September 21 to 25, 2026, brought the Commission closer to citizens through public outreach, stakeholder engagement, leadership sensitisation and community dialogue. Kajiado is the first county to host EACC Mashinani, which will be rolled out to other counties.
Kajiado Governor H.E. Joseph Ole Lenku and EACC Vice-Chairperson Dr Monica Muiru launched the programme at Maasai National Polytechnic. Dr Muiru called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to promote integrity and prevent corruption, while Governor Lenku pledged to work with EACC in combating corruption.
The programme included a countywide caravan-led public outreach, youth engagements, follow-up on Corruption Risk Assessments and a town hall meeting bringing together government officials, civil society, religious and community groups and members of the public.
At the town hall, EACC Chairperson Dr David Oginde urged public officers to protect public resources and serve citizens in accordance with the law. He called on citizens to reject and report corruption, noting that the vice deprives communities of resources and essential services.
EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud urged citizens to reject bribery and uphold integrity in electoral processes, while encouraging them to demand accountable leadership that safeguards public resources.
Residents raised concerns including alleged corruption in land transactions, stalled county projects and other governance and service-delivery challenges. Relevant stakeholders responded to the issues raised, while EACC provided information on reporting channels and established a reporting desk at the forum.
The initiative also targeted county leadership through preventive training for County Executive Committee Members serving as the Corruption Prevention Committee. Led by EACC Commissioner Dr Cecilia Mutuku alongside Kajiado Deputy Governor H.E. Martin Moshisho Martine, the session focused on identifying systemic corruption risks, strengthening internal controls and preventing financial mismanagement.
Members of the Kajiado County Assembly were also sensitised on ethical leadership, good governance, the anti-corruption legal framework and the Conflict of Interest Act, 2025. Led by EACC Commissioner (Rtd.) Col Alfred Mshimba, the session focused on Members’ obligations under the new law and practical measures for promoting ethical conduct.
The county leadership affirmed that combating corruption requires collective action.
Through EACC Mashinani, the Commission is combining community engagement with institutional capacity-building to strengthen corruption prevention and accountability at the county level, with the Kajiado experience expected to inform its rollout across the country.
