‘A Seed for Change’: EACC Chairperson hails youth anti-corruption walk
30:01:2026: A group of young Kenyans has completed a 350-kilometre walk from Eldoret to Nairobi to raise public awareness about the negative effects of corruption and the need for integrity in society.
The ten-day journey, led by Mr. Mark Kirwa, culminated yesterday at the Integrity Centre, the headquarters of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The group was received by the Commission’s leadership, including Chairperson Dr. David Oginde and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Abdi Mohamud.
Throughout the walk, the team engaged members of the public at churches, market centres and police roadblocks, delivering a consistent message on the importance of rejecting corruption. They called on citizens to refrain from offering bribes and urged law enforcement officers to uphold integrity in the execution of their duties.

Speaking at the conclusion of the walk, Mr. Kirwa said corruption remains a major obstacle to national development, noting that Kenya can achieve greater prosperity if citizens adopt a zero-tolerance approach to the vice.
Commending the youth for their initiative, Dr. Oginde described the walk as a “seed” capable of inspiring lasting national transformation. He emphasized that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility and warned that failure to address the vice poses a serious threat to the country’s stability and development.
The Chairperson also drew lessons from Singapore’s experience, citing principled leadership and strong governance as key factors that enabled the country to transition from a developing nation into a global benchmark for prosperity.
Receiving a petition from the group, Mr. Mohamud said corruption can be eradicated if every citizen plays an active role, noting that even simple actions—such as refusing to participate in corrupt practices—can make a significant difference.
He further observed that young people are among those most affected by corruption, a reality that has informed the Commission’s deliberate engagement with youth through universities, youth programmes and a formal partnership with the National Youth Council. He assured the team that the issues raised in their petition would be duly considered.
The initiative stands as a strong demonstration of youth leadership and civic responsibility in advancing integrity and good governance in Kenya.
