EACC holds strategic retreat on corruption prevention

30:09:2025: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) convened a two-day high-level strategic retreat in Naivasha from 23rd to 24th September 2025, bringing together Commissioners, executive management, and senior officers from departments directly involved in the Commission’s preventive mandate.

The retreat served as a critical platform for reviewing the progress of ongoing corruption prevention initiatives and developing forward-looking strategies to enhance the Commission’s role in promoting integrity and ethical governance across the public sector.

In his opening remarks, EACC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Abdi Mohamud emphasized the importance of the retreat as an opportunity for reflection, evaluation, and strategic realignment.

EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde reaffirmed the central role of prevention in the Commission’s anti-corruption efforts. He highlighted the need to prioritize preventive measures, even as enforcement remains a visible benchmark of institutional performance.

“While enforcement is often more visible and frequently seen as the benchmark of our success, prevention plays a vital role. Corruption prevention acts as a vaccine against the vice. It creates a protective hedge around our nation’s resources,” Dr. Oginde stated.

He also raised concern over the growing negative perception of Kenyans due to increasing instances of unethical conduct, warning that without robust preventive frameworks, such trends could undermine the country’s reputation and development goals.

The retreat concluded with a set of key resolutions aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the Commission’s preventive work. These include accelerating the digitization and automation of corruption prevention mechanisms; adopting proactive and data-driven interventions to curb corruption risks; and strengthening stakeholder collaboration to raise public awareness and promote a culture of integrity.

The strategic retreat marked a renewed commitment by the Commission to position prevention at the forefront of its operations, ensuring long-term impact in the fight against corruption.
