Nyandarua Teams Up with EACC to Fight Corruption
19:09:19: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has ticked yet another box following its successful completion of a Corruption Risk Assessment exercise in Nyandarua County. The County joins the league of 17 others that have opened themselves up for scrutiny in order to identify and address any weaknesses and loopholes in their systems.
The Nyandarua assessment was done by the Commission’s Prevention Department in line with its preventive mandate to conduct corruption risk assessments into the systems, policies procedures and practices of all counties and public institutions. By inviting the Commission, the County’s leadership had indicated its preparedness and commitment to fight corruption.
Representing the Governor, the County’s CEC of Finance and Economic Planning, Ms. Mary Mugwanja, expressed an interest in establishing mechanisms such as Corruption Prevention Committees and Integrity Assurance officers. She also spoke about the County Executive’s and County Assembly’s roles in creating enabling environments to fight graft in order to better serve their people.
EACC Commissioner Dr. Dabar Abdi Maalim urged the County to implement the recommendations provided in the report. He encouraged the County to commit to these best practices and sensitize its officials on the importance of taking personal responsibility against corruption.
